Another sunny afternoon, this time at Irthing Vale's Brampton ground, and a parched outfield met the teams. Winning the toss again, Joe Mein (35) and Tim Openshaw (35rtd) gave Edenhall a second consecutive 50+ opening stand, if slower than the last week, against naggingly accurate bowlers. Noah Hoyle (54rtd) soon upped the scoring rate, and after a mid-innings wobble, Andrew Hetherington (20) and Doug Bowman (9n.o.) saw the team over the 200 mark.
Vale got off to a fine start and by the time their no.3 Aamir Khan (52) retired, Edenhall were up against it. A great bowling partnership between Barnaby Parker (2-27) and Harry Bowman (3-28) brought the game back and with Matthew Hetherington and William Gawthorpe keeping it tight and picking up a wicket each, the returning Aamir Khan felt the pressure and went for one big hit too many, falling to a great catch in the deep by Archie Hale. 2 wins from 2 games for the new Sunday XI and plenty to be positive about.
