Staffield Sunday XI v Edenhall Sunday XI

A sunny afternoon at the picturesque Old Showground in Kirkoswald was the setting for the debut match for the Edenhall Sunday XI. Winning the toss and electing to bat first Edenhall openers Tim Openshaw (37) and Joe Mein (52 rtd) got the team off to a great start. Further good scores of 44 by Callum MacDonald and 35 by Noah Hoyle combined with a solid 12 from Archie Hale and a quick fire 13 from Harry 'Niall Quinn' Bowman saw the team post a competitive 230. In reply Staffield sent out a quality opening partnership in Xander Vasey and Ben Allison with the latter retiring on 50 in the space of a few overs. But after Archie Hale dismissed Vasey for 18 and wickets were shared throughout the team, Staffield found themselves on 140/9 with the dangerous Allison set to return. Having already hit a whopping 11 sixes Allison finally mistimed a slower ball to be caught by Jonny 'Safe Hands' Kidd and leave Staffield 176 all out. A great start to the season for the new team picking up maximum points.
